Simply put this anime kicks @ss The story follows Guts as he joined a band of rebels. You can read anyone elses synopsis they arent wrong The anime was possibly the coolest anime ive seen, it screams quality If you into action you'll love and if your into romance it has some too. The only thing I could say against it was that the ending was very confusing and would of been much better if they hadnt tried to raise the anime to the "ultimate being/paranormal/divine" etc etc

An excellent story with an interesting twist ending. Like another reviewer said earlier, even though the video quality is darker than it should be, coming from a laser disc source, I agree that it definitely fits the atmosphere of the show. The subtitles are excellent as well. There were a few problems with them not always being around right on time, but considering it is an HK release they are as good as they will get without being direct R1 copies. This is the HK set to get. An absolute bargain.

Sound: It echo when the character talk but nothing major. You could still hear it. Beside it only lasted for about 6 Esp, I think. Video: The faded color or kinda gloomy image actually is good for the series, IMO. Just help showed how serious/sad this series is. Subs: It's quite good. The only problem with it was the timing and sometime the subs never show up. Especially in the last ESp but then the last Esp is actually ESp 1. So, just watch Esp 1 again if you want to know what they are talking about. Character: I love it. Story: I was really into it. Off course all teh f ighting got me hooked but the storyline which anyone could predicted after esp 1. Help you want to see how the heck it happen and why. So, kept you into the series. Also, the character really develop throughout the series. Enjoyability: I really love this anime. Prolly will be one of my favorite. But it end abruptly since the manga wasn't finish when the series project ended. So, it actually pissed me off after finishing it. The way it ended. Overall: I would definitely recommend this series to anyone.

Synopsis: Berserk tells the story of Gatsu, a young mercenary possessing extraordinary fighting abilities. Fighting because it's the only thing he thinks he knows how to do, Gatsu thinks little about his life or his future. His chance encounter with a rising band of mercenaries and their intriguing leader begins this adventure. I'll get right to the point: Berserk is one of those titles that are too good to be missed. I finished watching the whole series in only two days because the storyline is engaging from the beginning to the end. I dislike the direction the story takes towards the end, but overall, I still like it very much. The characters are also great, both in their personalities and in their development. The medieval setting, compelling story, and unique, well-developed characters are all elements that make Berserk very enjoyable. The animation and music are both fantastic. Video and sound quality were also great. Berserk is easily the goriest anime I've seen, but that should not discourage anyone from viewing it because all the blood and stuff work well here. Oh, and now for the subtitles. Great news: Berserk's subtitles are great from start to finish. There was a problem with the timing for a couple of brief instants, but that's a very minor problem. Berserk is probably my current favorite anime and I highly recommend it. This is a very good set for a great show, and at only 30 bucks, I think it's an excellent buy.

The only reason I gave it a nine in the video section is the fact that in some of the dark scenes it is a little too dark, but that is not a real problem. Other than that everything got tens, and it deserved it. Story: Berserk is a story about a young man named Gatsu, and his amazing ability. This show encompesses Gatsu's time with the Taka no Dan. A word of warning, every episode of this show ends on a cliffhanger, and they only get worse. You will watch it all in one sitting more than once. It is a superb show. Buy it right now!

This has got to be one of my favorite animes of all time, and indeed its been listed as one of the best animes ever so I'll cut to the chase. This dark fantasy anime is by no means as exotic as some other fantasy animes that are out there. Instead its rooted in reality and as a result, enhances the fantastic aspects that come out as a result of the plot. Some of the best character development I've seen, all the while without ever boring the viewer. I've never felt my gut wrenched so badly by the plot twist and subsequent ending. This harshly realistic but wonderful world explores many aspects of what it is to be alive inlcuding intrigue, friendships, emotional and physical conflicts, betryels and love...albeit with many humanizing aspects and situations, that very few anime even attempt to explore. I could rave on and on about this piece of work, but I would like to give everyone a chance to view it for themselves. While Cowboy Bebop is kewl and revolutionary in terms of style and action sequences etc, it just doesn't come close to this anime in my book in terms of raw emotion, charcter development, storyline, and incidentally blood flow.

Yuki's Shortened Baka-Ready Synopsis:

There is a man- and he has a really ridiculously big sword. Another man- with a really small thin sword. Anothe character- a girl *shock*, with her own sword. They kill things. Lots and lots of things. They fight together, fight eachother, and have lots of bad crazy things happen to them. It's all about power, and who has a bigger sword.

In Closing:

A fun anime to drink to (hey, someone else died! *gulp*)- Pepsi only of course. This anime had a lot of balls to it, perhaps too much for a dainy gal such as myself. After the third blood fest, I began to stop really thinking of the characters as characters, especially Gatts. But hell- did I care? Nah. I still watched it all happily. Surrounded by males wishing they had just as big a ... hehe. ^_~

HOOHA! If you don't know about this show yet, you need to jump on board. Based off the popular manga, this twenty-six episode series will amaze you. The subtitles tend to be off from time to time (flash onto the screen too quickly, or lag behind the actual conversation) but they do catch up. Translation wise, very good and easy to understand. The story, character developement, and atmosphere are most definitely top notch.

Berserk takes place in an era of war, kings, and knights. In this medieval anime we follow the story of one man, Gatsu. An extremely powerful warrior, the first episode opens with the end and goes to a flashback leading all the way up to what we see him as in the first episode. Though people tend to generalize this as your average hack and slash anime there is much more to it. The characters are brilliantly done, and they do not just stay the same. As each one grows and matures, into a greater and better person or something far worse than one could imagine. As for my ratings, the sound is well done, no problems here, video is pretty well done, some seems like it was ripped from a vhs, but no biggy(not to mention the age of this anime). Subtitles are great, except for some parts, sometimes you'll miss a part or so because it can't be seen or it goes to fast. But this is not a constant, also I forget in which episode, but near the end there are no subtitles for the last few minutes. Character design as I mentioned above is great. The story is great as well, and the nejoyability is good. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the fact that there was no more. And it left you hanging. All in all this is a must buy and for the price you can't go wrong!

After buying the first disc at 25 bucks and seeing that they were doing a 5/4/4/ disc format for berserk, I decided that was enough and went with this box set for much cheaper. Here's my review:

PROS:

  • Getting the entire set at 36 bucks!
  • Subtitles almost near perfect.
  • Besides being a little darker, the video quality is at near dvd quality, and hardly any pixelation.
  • After the very last episode of Berserk, there are a couple extras, including music videos for each of the main themes of berserk.

    CONS:

  • The menu just sucks. There are no chapter breaks, and the episodes look all the same when trying to choose between them. It's not that it was hard to figure out, but they could have put a little more effort into it.
  • On the first disc which is about 7 or 8 episodes, there is an echo sound to the anime. It sounds as if they're all talking in a flashback or something. A little bothersome at first but you'll get used to it. It gets fixed in the other 2 discs, where the story really takes off.
Despite the cons,it's still an excellent dvd at it's price.

Berserk is extremely cool. It does contain a couple of subtitle errors where the subtitle goes off the screen (2 or 3 for all 26 episodes). The subtitles also sometimes stay on the screen too long or disappear before you can read them, but you'll get the idea and understand them...This series kicks ass!!

This is a very nice release. The video quality is quite fuzzy. Most likely a VHS rip or something. The subtitles rock! They are perfectly understandable, only sometimes they stay on screen too long or not long enough. Berserk has an excellent story with beautiful characters. It has a lot of gore but still, if you're an anime fan, you must see this series (if you have a strong constitution).

Based on the first story arc of the extremely graphic manga written by Kentarou Miura, to me this is one of those few "near" flawless releases. Berserk's story is composed of any element that makes up a classic;a perfect blend of drama, romance, action, blood'n'gore, horror and alot more blood'n'gore. Add awesome character design, a great soundtrack, mix together..and you got Berserk!.

Berserk's story spans through the life of a powerful swordsmen who joins a group of mercenaries who start from the bottom and literaly make their to the top by the end of the series.Their leader is a well known, respected and loved individual..but his true motives are questionable(of course).
To me, everything about this series is just a pure classic, up their with some of my other favorites like Cowboy Bebop and Rurouni Kenshin.Get ready though..this series's ending is truly a shocker and if your weak at heart(and stomach)i'd recomend staying near the bathroom..cause lots of heads are gonna be rollin'(figuratively and literally!!)
Dvd menu access I found the menus all preety self explanitory. A list of all the episodes are available..scroll down..click..no rocket science here.No chapter breaks.Bah.Oh well, thats what the remote control is for..
Sound I really love this series soundtrack. Each song perfectly fits the mood or scenario taking place. The opening and "next" episode songs are some of my favorite anime tunes of all time too.The only setback? Some of the background music might get repeative after awhile..but it did'nt really bother me that much til the last episodes.
Subtitle quality Preety flawless..if there was an error or grammer problem..I sure didnt notice maybe one or two..
Overall I recomend Berserk to any anime fan..unless you have an extremely low tolerance for blood and graphic violence..then i'd stay near the bathroom and watch it anyway! The story hooks you immediatly and you'll probably sit through all the episodes in a couple of sittings. It's that good.

Berserk is an epic adventure with violence, bloodshed, and even a little romance. Gatsu is a powerfull swordsman who joins a mercinary group on the rise. The leader of the group is well respected by evryone, but things arent always as they seem. If you like anime that makes you actually care about the characters this is for you. If you can get past the idea that this is just another hack and slash title, you will soon realize just how much substance this series contains. Also be prepared for an ending that will really piss you off. This is tied with Gundam Z for my favorite series.
