This is high quality animation, should be watched in chunks at a time. Too much to grasp all at once, most viewers, myself included, will be confused at times, and you'll need time to sort things out.

this is a strange but beautiful anime with a very indepth and at times confusing story. You actually feel for the characters especially poor lain, the story is a little slow at times and there isnt much action if thats what you are looking for, but the storyline is interesting enough to keep you watching. Sound and video are perfect, and for the price its definetely worth checking out.

Sound: Perfect sound. I've never heard anything more beautiful from FX. But Alice's (or Arisu in Japanese) really annoyed me.
Video: Stunning. I didn't noticed anything wrong with it at all. Definitly an R2 rip.
Subtitles: I kept the subtitles on during the English dub, and they were perfect.
Character Design: With the exception of Lain, Taro, and the men in black, the characters are pretty lame. But you don't see them as much as Lain, Taro and the men in black so I gave it a somewhat good score.
Story: This is a confusing one. It has a Matrix element to it. A girl tries to figure out the connection between the real world and the Wired (kinda like the internet). *SPOILER* But she finds out she is a program to actually break the line between the real world and the Wired. It's some confusing stuff in this. A series definitely not for the simple minded.
Enjoyability: I loved this series alot, but because of the confusing story, I took one point off. If you understand the Matrix movies (which I did) then you will know and love this series....A lot. And with this price, it's a steal.

The art style is great. But there are so few words in the anime and the story is so dry,I had problems staying awake(major problems). To be honest with you I'd rather watch paint dry than to watch this again! It was like the never ending 13 episodes from hell.I never thought a 13 episode show was very long until this.So save your money and Watch BoogiePop Phantom instead! Now thats a thrilling show!Or if you have insomnia this may the answer you've been looking for.

Okay, here it goes. There aren't enough words in the English language to describe how FU@*&#$^(@*#$^ impressed I am with this collection. From the packaging to the level of detail and quality put into the dvds, this collection ranks at the very top. I'm blown away. Beautiful job, beautiful beautiful beautiful!!! BRAVO!

Well, as others have said, direct rip. Might be a bit confusing, but then, anime fans are used to that! I don't think it's any worse than Akira. The story isn't too bad, but some of the internal episodes are pretty repetitive and boring.

Although I do like this series very much, most people will find it to be to damn confusing for them. Hell most wont even know that Lain is'nt even a real person. Its a good anime, but only watch this if you are positive you're going to understand it, otherwise dont waste your time.

In answer to the previous "review", yes this is the entire series. But on to the main. It concernes the all to commen theme of the real world verses the online world. Poor Lain, is she real or not? Don't get me wrong, this is quite a good series. I just happen to like hack.sign better. As for the audio aand video and subs this is a direct rip of the US Pioneer release. Nuf said about that. It was enjoyable. Not a bad but at all.
